Steel Core Tape Reinforced RTP Tube Technology

Fiberglass and polyester reinforced RTP pipes are mainly concentrated in the solution of small diameter pipes, while the steel cord reinforced tape provide an economic solution for large pipe
Introduction

High Strength Steel Cord Tape
Reinforced RTP Pipe Technology

Reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP) can achieve high pressure and large diameter

Reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP) has the advantages of high pressure resistance, flexibility, corrosion resistance, impact resistance and wear resistance, as well as the characteristics of light weight, spool-able and quick laying with less joints, therefore it is very suit for the application of oil & gas onshore pipeline.

However, the RTP pipe reinforced by glass fiber and polyester fiber mainly focus on small diameter pipeline solution, there are still some particular applications which need to use the large diameter plastic composite pipe instead of current steel pipes. In this scenario, the high strength synthetic fiber is an expensive solution cannot be accepted widely by end users. With this consideration, Goldstone has developed an alternative economic solution, steel cord reinforcement RTP pipes technology.

The high strength steel cord is made by twisting numbers of fine steel wire, which has very good flexibility and high monofilament strength. The unit tensile strength of steel cord is greater than 3000 MPa, which performance is higher than 800MPa of the impregnated glass fiber tape. For example, the 1.0mm steel cord tensile strength is about 1900-2000N, it is almost same as 900 tex aramid fiber, but 1600 tex (about 1.1mm) glass fiber or polyester fiber can provide 800-900N strength only. Therefore, steel cord could replace the expensive synthetic fibers as economic reinforcement material used on large diameter composite pipe.
